Ain’t No Way! How AI Might Be Turning Us Rude.

Lately, I’ve realized I talk more to ChatGPT than I do to actual humans. It’s convenient, quick, and let’s be real you don’t have to worry about sugar coating anything. I’m just out here firing off questions like “What’s smarter, a dog or a cat ?” without a “please” or “thank you” in sight. It got me wondering: Is AI slowly turning us into straight-up rude people?

Think back to when AI assistants first hit the scene. We’d say stuff like, “Siri, could you kindly tell me the weather?” almost like we didn’t want to hurt her feelings. Now? We’re all business. Pew Research Center found that over 70% of folks are more focused on getting fast results than being polite. Makes sense. Why waste time on extra words when you can cut to the chase?

And we’re not alone. A study from Stanford showed that polite phrases like “please” and “thank you” dropped 35% compared to when we used to chat with Siri and Alexa. It’s like the more human these AIs get, the less human we become in how we talk to them—and maybe even to each other.

Here’s another wild stat: OpenAI says people are interacting with ChatGPT for 20-30 minutes a day, which is probably more time than they spend chatting with friends or even the fam. Some people are so glued to their AI interactions that they report feeling more awkward in face-to-face convos. When you’re used to getting instant answers from something that doesn’t need small talk, who’s got time for real-life pleasantries?

So, is it a big deal if we’re skipping the manners when talking to AI? Maybe, maybe not. But if it starts bleeding into how we treat actual people, that’s when it could get tricky.

AI is getting better and more realistic every day. In the next 5-10 years, it’s gonna be tough to tell the difference between a bot and a real person. But here’s a friendly reminder: while your virtual assistant won’t catch an attitude if you forget to say “please,” your real-life connections might. So yeah, enjoy the efficiency AI brings, but don’t forget to keep it cool and courteous with your fellow humans. After all, no matter how advanced AI gets, nothing beats the vibe of a genuine, respectful conversation.
